Active Ingredients:
- Fluconazole
The commercial name of the medication may differ from the brand one. Generic Diflucan manufactured by Inison Pharmaceuticals is available under commercial name Fole.
How does the medication work?
Antifungal agent. Selective inhibitor of sterol synthesis in the cell of fungi. Effective in opportunistic mycoses, including generalized candidiasis (also with reduced immunity), cryptococcal infection (caused by Cryptococcus neoformans, including meningitis), infection caused by Microsporum spp. and Trychoptyton spp., endemic mycoses (caused by Blastofnyces oermatitioes, Coccidkxtes immitis, Histoplasma capsulatum).
Why is Diflucan prescribed?
- Cryptococcosis, including cryptococcal meningitis and infections of lung and skin in patients with normal immune response and AIDS, recipients of transplanted organs and patients with other forms of immunodeficiency; for maintenance therapy to prevent cryptococcosis backset in AIDS patients;
- Generalized candidiasis, including candidemia, disseminated candidiasis and other forms of invasive Candida infections (infection of the peritoneum, endocardium, eyes, respiratory and urinary tract, including in patients with malignant tumors, intensive care unit patients, patients receiving cytotoxic or immunosuppressive medications predisposed to candidiasis;
- Candidiasis of mucous membranes, including oral cavity and pharynx, esophagus, non-invasive pulmonary candidiasis, mucocutaneous and chronic oral atrophic candidiasis in patients with normal and suppressed immune function, prevention of oropharyngeal candidiasis backset in AIDS patients;
- Genital candidiasis: acute or recurrent vaginal candidiasis, candidiasis balanitis; prophylaxis to reduce the frequency of recurrences of vaginal candidiasis (3 or more episodes per year);
- Prevention of fungal infections in patients with malignant tumors receiving cytotoxic chemotherapy or radiotherapy;
- Mycosis of the skin, including mycosis of the feet, body, groin, scaly skin disease, onychomycosis and cutaneous Candida infections;
- Deep endemic mycosis in patients with normal immunity.
When Diflucan should not be taken?
- Hypersensitivity
- Pregnancy, breastfeeding
- With caution: liver and / or renal dysfunction, risk of heart arrhythmias, heart disorders
What side effects are possible with the medicine ?
- gastrointestinal tract: nausea, abdominal pain, diarrhea, bloating, taste disturbance, abnormal liver function, increased bilirubin or liver aminotransferases in serum, hepatitis
- nervous system: headache, dizziness, cramps
- blood system: leukopenia, neutropenia, agranulocytosis, thrombocytopenia
- dermatological and allergic reactions: skin rash, urticaria, angioedema, anaphylactic reactions, exfoliative skin disorders (Stevens-Johnson syndrome, toxic epidermal necrolysis), alopecia
- other: increased QT interval on ECG, increased cholesterol and triglycerides in the blood plasma, hypokaliemia

- hypnotics
- anesthetic medications
