How does the medication work?
Xenical contains the active ingredient orlistat which is specific inhibitor of gastrointestinal lipase. Xenical exerts its therapeutic action in the stomach and small bowel where it forms the covalent bonds with active serine parts of the stomach and pancreatic lipases. Unactivated enzyme looses its ability to break up lipids which come with food in the form of triglycerides. Decreased absorption of triglycerides lowers the amount of calories which enter the blood circulation. Unabsorbed fats are eliminated out of the organism with feces. Action mechanism of the medication begins in 24-48 hours after the first application. The medication is not effective
Why is Xenical prescribed?
Generic Xenical is prescribed for the prolonged treatment of obese and overweight patients. The medication can be indicated in combination with hypoglycemic preparations and moderate low-calorie diet in patients with diabetes type 2 with overweight or obesity.
Xenical is not effective without moderate physical exercises and diet.
When Xenical should not be taken?
Generic Xenical should not be used if any of the following conditions apply to you:
- Hypersensitivity to any of the medication ingredients

- Cholestasis
- Pregnancy
- Breastfeeding
What side effects are possible with the medicine ?
- Digestive system: the most common- oil discharges from the rectum (oily spotting), meteorism with a small amount of stool or oil, steatorea, frequency defecation, fecal urgency, nausea, uncontrolled bowel movement, watery stool, damage of the teeth and gums.
- Allergic reactions: itching, rash, hives, angioedema, anaphylactic reactions.

- In patents with diabetes are also possible hypoglycemic conditions and meteorism.
