What is the name of the active ingredient?
Active Ingredients:
- montelukast
How does the medication work?
Generic Singulair belongs to a group of medicines called antagonists of leukotriene receptors. Montelukast inhibits cysteinyl of leukotriene receptors of the respiratory airways epithelium. The medication inhibits bronchospasm caused by inhalation of cysteinyl-leukotriene LTD4 in patients with bronchial asthma. Montelukast causes bronchodilation within 2 hours and may enhance bronchodilation caused by beta2-adrenomimetics.
Why is Generic Singulair prescribed?
Generic Singulair in prophylaxis and prolonged treatment of bronchial asthma in adults and children over 6 years of age:
- prevention of daily and night symptoms of the disease
- treatment of bronchial asthma in patients with hypersensitivity to acetylsalicylic acid
- prevention of bronchospasm caused by physical overloads
- relief the symptoms of seasonal allergic rhinitis (in adults and children over 6 years of age) and all years round rhinitis (in adults and children over 6 years of age).
It is not recommended to indicated Singulair for the treatment acute attacks of bronchial asthma.
When Generic Singulair should not be taken?
Singulair should not be taken if any of the following condition apply to you:
- Hypersensitivity to any of the medication ingredient
- Children under 6 years of age
Singulair should be used with caution in:
- Breastfeeding
- Pregnancy
- Infections of the respiratory system
- Liver disease
What side effects are possible with the medicine ?
Generic Singulair may cause the following side effects:
- Allergic reactions: anaphylactic reactions, angioedema, skin rash, itching, hives,
- CNS: hallucination, nightmares, drowsiness, hyperirritability, agitation including and aggressive behavior, fatigability, insomnia, paresthesia, headache, in very rare cases- seizures
- Digestive system: nausea, vomiting, dyspepsia, diarrhea, stomach pain.
- Apparatus system: arthralgia, myalgia, muscle spasms.
- Other: tendency to bleedings, formation of subcutanous bleedings, increased heart rate, edemas.
If any of these side effects occur during the treatment seek medical attention immediately.

Certain anticonvulsants:
- Cabramazepine
- Oxcarbazepine
- Primidone
- Phenytoin
- Phenobarbital
- Pentobarbital
- Fosphenytoin
Antibiotics (erythromycin)
