Active Ingredients:

The commercial name of the medication may differ from the brand one. Generic Zocor manufactured by Okasa is available under commercial name Simlip.
How does the medication work?
Simvastatin belongs to a group of cholesterol medications called Aspergillus terreus. Being in its unactive lactone simvastatin is hydrolized into its active metabolite which inhibits the enzyme HMG-Coa-reductase- enzyme which catalyzes the beginning phase of cholesterol production. The medication lowers the blood levels of low density lipoproteins (LDL) and very low density lipoproteins (VLDL) and total cholesterol. Simvastatin also decreases the amount of triglycerides and increases blood levels of high density lipoproteins (HDL) which are sometimes called good cholesterol.
Why is Zocor prescribed?
Generoc Zocor is approved to treat the following conditions:
- Primary hypercholesterolemia in patients with increased risk of coronary atherosclerosis
- Mixed hypercholesterolemia and hypertriglyceridemia
Coronary heart diseases:
- prophylaxis of heart attacks
- decrease of death risk
- retardation of atherosclerosis progression
- prophylaxis of strokes in patients with atherosclerosis
When Zocor should not be taken?
Generic Zocor should not be taken in:
- Liver diseases in active phase, increased activity of liver's transaminases
- Myopatyh
- Pregnancy
- Breastfeeding
- Children and adolescents under 18 years of age
- Hypersensitivity to simvastatin and other components of the medication (including and hereditary intolerance of lactose)
Generic Zocor should be used with caution in: hypersensitivity to other statins, patients which abuse alcohol drinking, patients after organ's transplantation, kidney dysfunction, low blood pressure, acute infectious diseases, expressed metabolic and endocrine disorders, disorders of the water-electrolyte balance, surgical intervention, traumas, patients with decreased or increased tonus of the skeletal muscles, epilepsy.
What side effects are possible with the medicine ?
- Digestive system: taste changes, nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, constipation, diarrhea, pancreatitis, meteorism, hepatitis, increased activity of liver's transaminases
- CNS and peripheral nervous system: asthenia, headache, dizziness, insomnia, seziures, paresthesia, paripheral neuropathy, blurred vision.
- Apparatus system: myopathy, myalgia, weakness, rhabdomyolysis
- Urogenital system: acute kidney failure
- Hemopoietic system: thrombocytopenia, anemia
- Allergic reactions: angioedema, vasculitis, arthritis, hives, fever, increased blood sedimentation rate
- Dermatological reactions: photosensibilization, hyperemia of the skinm skin rash, alopecia, dermatomyositis.
- Other: hot flashes, increased heart rate, erectile dysfunction.
If any of these side effects occur during the treatment seek medical attention immediately.

- Blood thinners (warfarin)
- Immune suppression therapy (cyclosporine)
- Niacin containing products
- Antimycotic agents (fluconazole, ketoconazole, itraconazole)
- HIV treatment (protease inhibitors)
- Certain antibiotics (erythromycin, clarithromycin, telithromycin)
- Anti arrhythmic drugs (amiodarone)
- Antidepressants (nefazodone)
- Calcium channel blockers (verapamil)
- Cardiac glycosides(digoxin)
- High cholesterol treatment (statins, fibrates, gemfibrozil)
- Synthetic andogens (danazol)
