How does the medication work?
Rosiglitazone is an oral hypoglycemic medication which belongs to a group of medicines called selective agonists of nuclear receptors PPARγ (peroxisomal proliferator activated gamma). The medication lowers glucose blood levels, increases the sensitivity of fat, liver and muscular tissue, enhances metabolic reactions, lowers glucose, insulin and free fat acids in the blood. The medication maintains the function of B-cells, increase the amount of islets of Langerhans, prevents the development of hyperglycemia. The medication does not stimulate the secretion of insulin by the pancreas and does not cause hypoglycemia.
Why is Avandia prescribed?
Generic Avandia is indicated for in the treatment of diabetes type 2
- in monotherapy in insufficient effectiveness of diet and physical exercises
- in combination with Sulfonylurea derivatives or metformin
- in combination with Sulfonylurea derivatives and metformin (triple therapy)
When Avandia should not be taken?
Generic Avandia should not be taken if the following conditions apply to you:
- Diabetes type 1
- Heart failure
- Moderate and severe liver failure
- Pregnancy
- Breastfeeding
- Children and adolescents under 18 years of age
- Concomitant use with insulin
- Hyperglycemia to rosiglitazone and other components of the medication
The medication should be used with caution in kidney failure
What side effects are possible with Avandia?
- The most common Avandia side effects include: upper respiratory system infections, increased fragility of the bones(in women), injury, headache, swelling or water retention, anemia and back pain.
- Other Avanida side effects include: high blood pressure symptoms, low blood sugar levels, weight gain, swelling, liver problems, vision disturbances, signs of allergic reactions.
If any of these side effects occur during the treatment seek medical attention immediately.
