Zelnorm
Active Ingredients:
- Tegaserod Maleate
How does the medication work?
Tegaserod is a partial agonist of 5-HT4-receptors. Tegaserod stimulates serotonin receptors of type 4 in the terminals of sensory (afferent) neurons of the gastrointestinal tract and causes the release of a number of neurotransmitters. The medication launches peristaltic reflex, increases the basal motor activity and normalizes impaired propulsive activity throughout the gastrointestinal tract. Tegaserod has a positive effect on the peristalsis of the entire digestive tract.
In patients with irritable bowel syndrome with constipation predominance, tegaserod accelerates the passage of intestinal bulk through the small and large intestine. Tegaserod reliably improves stool consistency and increases the number of defecations, reduces the severity of the symptoms (discomfort / abdominal pain, constipation) characteristic for IBS.
