Active Ingredients:
- Esomeprazol
How does the medication work?
Specific inhibitor of proton pump of parietal cells of the mucous layer of the stomach. Inhibits the proton pump, thereby develops the hydrochloric acid secretion inhibition. Used to treat ulcerative defects of the gastric mucosa and duodenum; in combination with a suitable antibiotic can be achieved a better effect of eradication of Helicobacter pylori (90%). Effective for the prevention of peptic ulcer with concomitant therapy of NSAIDs.
Why is Nexium prescribed?
- Zollinger-Ellison syndrome
- reflux esophagitis (both symptomatic therapy and relapses treatment as well as etiologic treatment of peptic forms of reflux gastritis)
- eradication of Helicobacter pylori - in combination therapy with antibacterial drugs for stomach ulcers and duodenal ulcers
- prevention and treatment of peptic ulcers caused by NSAID's.
When Nexium should not be taken?
- hypersensitivity
- pediatric patients
- pregnancy, lactation
What side effects are possible with the medicine ?
- Central nervous system and peripheral nervous system: drowsiness, depression, paresthesia, aggression, insomnia, irritability, dizziness, hallucinations
- Gastrointestinal tract: candidiasis, stomatitis
- Blood system and hemopoiesis: thrombocytopenia, leukopenia, pancytopenia, agranulocytosis
- Liver: hepatitis (with or without jaundice), encephalopathy (in case of severe liver disease in history), liver failure
- Locomotor system: muscle weakness, pain in the joints
- Skin: photosensitivity, rash, toxic epidermal necrolysis, alopecia
- Other: hypersensitivity reactions (bronchial spasm, fever, nephritis, increased sweating), edema, hyponatremia, taste disturbances
