Neurontin
Active Ingredients:
- Gabapentin
How does the medication work?
Neuronin contains the active ingredient gabapentin which is structural analogue of GABA. The action mechanism of the medication is different than in preparations which interact with GABA-receptors including valproats, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, inhibitors of GABA-transaminases. Gabapentin works by binding with a2 and subunits of the voltage-dependent calcium channels and inhibits the inflow of calcium ions into the cells. Another action mechanism of the medication is associated with lowering of glutamate-dependent death of the neurons, increase of GABA synthesis, inhibiting the release of MAO neurotransmitters. Gabapentine does not interact with the receptors GABAa and GABAb, benzodiazepine, glutamate, glycine, and NMDA.
