The commercial name of the medication may differ from the brand one. Generic Celebrex manufactured by Cipla is available under commercial name Codix.
How does the medication work?
Celecoxib belongs to a group of drugs called NSAID's . It works by selectively inhibiting COX-2 enzyme thus preventing the formation of prostaglandines in the tissue which in turn cause inflammation. The preparation nearly has no effect on the COX-1 enzyme which affects the stomach lining.
Why is Celecoxib prescribed?
The drug should not be used in:
- Rheumatoid arthritis
- Reactive synovitis
- Pain syndrome in osteoarthrosis
When Celecoxib should not be taken?
The drug must not be taken in case of:
- Hypersensitivity
- Severe liver and kidney disorders
- Heart failure
- Stomach and duodenal ulcer
- Pregnancy
- Lactation period
- Age prior to 18 years
What side effects are possible with Celecoxib?
- CNS: headache, dizziness, weakness, insomnia, blurry vision, ear ringing, paresthesia, anxiety, depression, ataxia
- Cardiovascular system: arterial hypertension, heartbeat, anemia, leukopenia, thrombocytopenia
- Respiratory system: pharyngitis, rhinitis, sinusitis, coughing, labored breathing.
- Gastrointestinal tract: abdominal pain, diarrhea, dyspepsia, meteorism, nausea, constipation, gastritis, stomatitis, vomiting, change of taste, stomach and duodenal ulcer, dysphagia, esophagitis, melena.
- Skin: rash, hives, alopecia
- Other: peripheral swelling, leg seizures, urogenital infections
- If any of these side effects occur during the treatment seek medical attention immediately.
