How does the medication work?
Meloxicam belongs to a group of drugs called NSAID's. The preparation exerts anti-inflammatory, antipyretic and analgesic effect. The effect of the preparation is determined by its effects on COX-2 which affects the formation of prostaglandins in the inflammation region. In a lesser degree the drug affects COX-1 which works by promoting synthesis of prostaglandins in the mucous membrane of the stomach and regulation of renal blood flow.
Why is Meloxicam prescribed?
The preparation is used for symptomatic treatment of:
- Osteoarthrosis
- Rheumatoid arthritis
- Bechterew's disease
When Meloxicam should not be taken?
- Aspirin induced bronchial asthma
- Stomach and duodenal ulcer
- Severe GI bleeding
- Severe liver failure
- Heart failure
- Age prior to 15 years
- Pregnancy
- Breastfeeding
- Hypersensitivity to the components of the preparation
The preparation should be used with caution in:
- Elderly patients
- Patients with erosive ulcerous GI tract disorders
What side effects are possible with Mobic?
- Gastrointestinal tract: nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, diarrhea, constipation, meteorism , erosive-ulcerous GI disease, stomach wall perforation, GI bleeding, jaundice, stomatitis, dry mouth
- Cardiovascular system: tachycardia, increased arterial pressure, flushing
- Respiratory system: aggravation of asthma symptoms
- CNS: headache, dizziness, ear ringing, disorientation, confusion, sleep disorders
- Urogenital system: Swelling, interstitial nephritis, renal medullary necrosis, hematuria, renal failure
- Dermatology: itching, rash, hives, photosensitivity
- Allergic reactions
- Haemopoietic system: anemia, leukopenia, thrombocytopenia
- Other: fever.
