How does the medication work?
Isotretionin is anti-acne medication which contributes to normalization of the cells differentiation, retards hyper-proliferation of the epithelium in excretory ducts of the fatty glands, lowers the production of detritus and lightens its evacuation. This results in decreased formation of sebaceous matter, normalization of its content, relief of inflammatory reaction around the fatty glands. The medication exerts antiseborrheic, anti-inflammatory, sebostatic, kerato and immune modulating action, enhances the processes of regeneration in the skin.
Why is Accutane prescribed?
For oral use: severe forms of acne (especially localized on the body): whiteheads, blackheads, papules, pustules, nodules, cysts.
For rectal application: severe recrudescent forms of acne, rash with accompanied seborrheic process.
When Accutane should not be taken?
Accutane should not be used of any of the following conditions apply to you:
- Pregnancy (the medication causes teratogenic and embryotoxic action)
- Breastfeeding (lactation)
- Severe liver diseases
- Severe kidney diseases
- Hypervitaminosis A
- High lipids blood levels
- Tumors
- Diseases of the rectum (for rectal application)
- Hypersensitivity to any of the medication ingredients
The medication should be used with caution in liver diseases, kidney dysfunction, chronic pancreatitis, heart failure, chronic intoxications (including and alcoholic).
What side effects are possible with the medicine ?
Generic Accutane may cause the following side effects:
- Dermatological reactions: dryness of the mucous lining, skin rash, dermatitis, itching, erythema, sweating, nails dystrophy, vasculitis, increased photosensitivity.
- Sense organs: conjunctivitis, decreased night vision, decreased hearing, corneal opacity.
- CNS and peripheral nervous system: headache, depression, seizures, tendency to suicide, in individual cases: intra cranial hypertension.
- Digestive system: nausea, colitis, digestive bleedings, increased activity of liver's transaminases, in very rare cases hepatitis.
- Hemopoietic system: anemia, neutropenia, changes in platelets amount, increased erythrocyte sedimentation rate.
- Metabolism: increased blood levels of glucose, thyrotropic hormone.
- Apparatus system: muscle and joint pain
- Other: nasal bleedings
- In rectal application: rash, itching, edema and redness of the skin.
If any of these side effects occur during the treatment seek medical attention immediately.

What are possible drug to drug interactions associated with Accutane ?
Generic Accutane should not be used in combination with:
- Tetracyclines (tetracycline, doxycycline, minocycline, tigecycline)
