How does the medication work?
Zovirax is an antiviral medication a synthetic analogue of nuclioside. Zovirax works by reducing the spread and growth of herpes virus and helps our organisms to fight this infection. The medication is prescribed in order to treat various infections caused by herpes, such as: cold sores, chicken pox, genital herpes. The drug Zovirax is not a cure for herpes but it helps to relieve the symptoms of Herpes virus such as burning, blisters, tingling. Zovirax must be taken for the entire length of treatment. Why is Zovirax prescribed?
Aciclovir is prescribed to treat the following conditions:
- Essential or reccurent severe genital herpes
- Herpes simplex prophylaxis in patients with weak immune system
- Herpes zoster virus
- Chicken pox in patients with weak immune system
When Zovirax should not be taken?
- Hypersensitivity to any component of the drug
- Pregnancy, lactation period
- Kidney insufficiency
- Dehydration
- Neurological disorders or neurological reactions on cytotoxic medications administration
What side effects are possible with the medicine ?
- Anaphylactic reactions
- Skin allergy (itch, rash, hives, Lyell syndrome, multi-formal exudative erythema)
- Confused mental state, coma
- Increased activity of liver transaminases
- Fever, hallucinations, leukopenia, lymphadenopathy, peripheral edema
- Vision disorders, headaches, dizziness, sleepiness
- Acute kidney insufficiency
