How does the medication work?
Generic Actonel is a bone resorption inhibitor. Risedronic acid connects to hydroxyapatite on a cellular level and inhibits the function of osteoclasts. This helps to reduce bone resorption. The therapeutic effect of the medication reaches its maximum in 3 month. The duration of treatment is 16 monthes.
Why is Generic Actonel prescribed?
- Post-menstrual osteoporosis (prophylaxis and treatment)
- Osteoporosis while taking glucocorticosteroids (prophylaxis and treatment in men and women)
When Generic Actonel should not be taken?
Hypersensitivity to any of the medication ingredients
- Renal failure
- Liver failure
- Hypocalcemia (low calcium blood levels)
- Children and adolescents under 18 years of age
- Inability to sit upright or stand for a half an hour
- Esophagus obstruction and problem with swallowing
- Pregnancy
- Breastfeeding

What side effects are possible with the medicine ?
- Digestive system: stomachodynia, abdominal pain, dysphagia, eructation, glossitis, esophagitis, duodenitis, ulcers of the esophagus and stomach, colitis, diarrhea or constipation, nausea
- Nervous system: headache, dizziness, fatigue, unusual fatigue, leg cramps, myasthenia
- Sensory organs: acute iritis, amblyopia, blurred vision, dryness of the mucous membrane of eyes, ringing in the ears
- Allergic reactions: skin rash
- Other: bone pain, arthralgia, bronchitis (cough), sinusitis, chest pain, peripheral edema, minor transient hypocalcemia and hypophosphatemia
